Georgia Tech has a long commitment to gender equity issues in education. The Women in Engineering program plays a leadership role in addressing women's concerns at GA Tech and beyond. The goal of the WIE program is to increase the number of women students who choose majors, advanced degrees, and careers in engineering. WIE seeks to ensure that every woman with the potential and interest in such careers has the necessary background and support to pursue these interests.
To address the critical issue of the lack of women in engineering related fields WIE implemented a three step strategy: information networking to prevent isolation and foster a sense of belonging, recruitment and career and leadership information to provide perspective, and mentoring to enhance retention.
