The latest QS World University rankings by subject now places Statistics and Operational Research as number four in the world. The core strength comprising the discipline of Operations Research (OR) at Georgia Tech resides in the Stewart School of Industrial & Systems Engineering (ISyE). One of the largest programs in the country, approximately half of the entire ISyE faculty is directly responsible for the OR program through teaching and research activities that span virtually every topic and sub-discipline related to the field's basic methodologies of optimization, stochastics/applied probability and simulation. ISyE at Georgia Tech is ranked number one in the country for both undergraduate and graduate education.

The QS World University Rankings by Subject are an extension of the overall QS World University Rankings, which are released each fall. According to the company's website, the by-subject rankings are designed to "provide comparative information at discipline level and to highlight the excellence of institutions in specialist areas." The rankings highlight the world’s top universities in 36 individual subjects, based on academic reputation, employer reputation and research impact. The QS group evaluated 3,551 universities and more than 100 million citations for research articles published in 36 subject areas for the 2015 rankings.
