Georgia Tech’s College of Engineering has risen to No. 3 in the nation among undergraduate programs according to the newest rankings from U.S. News & World Report.

The College moved up one spot on the 2024 Best Colleges list. It’s the highest ranking since 1996, and makes the program No. 1 among public universities (tied with the University of California, Berkeley).

Two of the College’s programs are the best in the nation: the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) and the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISyE).

ISyE continues a run at No. 1 that started in 2002. Coulter BME rose one spot and now is ranked first by U.S. News among both undergraduate and graduate programs (graduate rankings are released each spring).

Aerospace, chemical, civil, and mechanical engineering are each ranked No. 2. And all 10 of the College’s undergraduate programs are ranked in the top six nationally.

Engineering programs and individual discipline rankings are based solely on surveys of deans and faculty members at other universities. The U.S. News rankings are one indicator of the quality of an institution and can influence undergraduates, professors, prospective students, peer institutions, and the media.

Meanwhile, Georgia Tech climbed 11 spots in the overall national rankings to No. 33. Tech is 10th among public universities.

Our College community continues to find new ways to innovate education in and out of the classroom, while also conducting research that furthers the human condition. I’m grateful to work alongside our faculty and staff and am always inspired by our students’ determination and successes.
