Jianjun Shi, the Carolyn J. Stewart chair and professor in the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering, received the Albert G. Holzman Distinguished Educator Award from the Institute of Industrial Engineers at the annual conference in May 2011. This award recognizes significant contributions to the profession through research, publication, extension, administration and teaching innovation in the academic environment. The contributions must be of the highest caliber and be nationally or internationally recognized. Only one award is given annually.
Paul Neitzel, professor and associate chair for graduate studies in the Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering, is the 2011 recipient of the Zeigler Outstanding Educator Award. This award is made possible through the generosity of Jack M. Zeigler, a Woodruff School alumnus, and honors a senior faculty member who has demonstrated sustained excellence as an educator.
Kevin Haas, assistant professor of Civil Engineering, has created an online database for tidal energy resources in the U.S. This tidal power devices can be deployed to convert the energy in tides to electricity. This online database is an important step towards providing information that can improve the performance, lower the costs, and accelerate the deployment of innovative water power technologies.
