CoE's Summer Engineering Institute (SEI) wrapped up its three-week program with group presentations by the 10th and 11th grade high school students who attended. The SEI students were divided into groups and each group was responsible for completing an engineering project. All materials and instructions were provided. This year's group projects centered on water filtration, green buildings, and fuel cell technology.
SEI is a three-week residential program where the students are exposed to science, math and engineering. The purpose of the institute is to provide high school students with an opportunity to explore the engineering profession early on in their education and encourage them to make engineering their career of choice. Participants then presented their final engineering project to faculty, staff, and friends of Georgia Tech on the final day.
Participants are provided with real-world context to the study of engineering through practical, meaningful, applied and hands-on problem solving and design-oriented projects. Daily activities included classroom instruction, group and individual study, guest speakers, company tours, and recreational activities.
The closing ceremonies featured Mr. Elton Ndoma-Ogar, Diversity & Inclusion Manager, for D&I Americas, BP. Sponsors of the SEI at Georgia Tech include BP, LEAD, Caterpillar, HP, and John Deere.
