Crittenden, also a professor in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, will serve on the EPA’s Science Advisory Board (SAB). The board offers advice to the larger EPA, working to ensure that agency policy falls in line with scientific data and analyses.

The EPA is preparing to release its Report on the Environment, which catalogues information in areas such as land, air and ecological systems. Topics surveyed are considered critical to the future of environmental and human health. The most recent report was released in 2008, and in his new role on the SAB, Crittenden will review the 2012 edition.

At GT, he leads the Brook Byers Institute for Sustainable Systems, which develops plans and promotes leadership in on-campus sustainability. With roots reaching back to 1992, the institute is Tech’s chief voice in shaping policy on the issue. Crittenden has taught sustainable engineering at Tech, and he offered courses at other universities on subjects including wastewater treatment and environmental engineering.
