Winners from the College of Engineering include: Xiaohang Li, Electrical and Computer Engineering, $15,000 Edison Prize; Nazanin Masoodzadehgan, Nuclear Engineering/Medical Physics, $500 VWR Poster Award; Akhil Srinivasan, Biomedical Engineering, Chenxi Zeng, Industrial Engineering, Chi-Chi Esimai, Bioengineering, and Yogi Patel, Biomedical Engineering, all receiving $5,000 Fellowships.
In addition, Andrew Siefert, Bioengineering, Brennen Mueller, Chemical Engineering, Chanchala Kaddi, Biomedical Engineering, Jessica Ewbank, Chemical Engineering, Kristin French, Biomedical Engineering, Long Lin, Materials Science Engineering, Maria Elena Casas, Chemical Engineering, Olivia Burnsed, Biomedical Engineering, Saujan Sivaram, Chemical Engineering, Sofiane Boukhalfa, Materials Science Engineering, Soheil Shayegh, Industrial Engineering, Song Seto, Biomedical Engineering, and Tanushree Thote, Biomedical Engineering, received $1,500 Travel Awards in the poster competition.
Winners of the $5,000 IPC Foundation Poster Awards were Jie Wu, Materials Science Engineering, and Lester Li, Chemical Engineering.GTRIC is also composed of three competitions that can be applied for separately: a Poster Session, Innovation Competition, and Ivan Allen College Competition.
In the poster session, participants are first vetted through an abstract submission process. Accepted students display their work to several faculty judges and compete for a number of travel grants and fellowships. In the past, 30 travel grants of up to $1,500 for Masters and PhD students have been awarded. The Institute of Paper Chemistry also provides a first and second place prize of $10,000 and $5,000 respectively for research related to paper chemistry.
In the innovation competition, participants are also vetted through an abstract submission process. Accepted students attend workshops to practice defending their unique ideas and ultimately give a presentation in front of a select panel of faculty and staff. These students are judged not only for the creativity and merit of their content but also for the overall marketability of their research or idea. In the past, the first place winner has received the Edison Prize, a $15,000 grant to forward the commercialization of their idea into a product.
Objectives of the conference:
- To showcase the richness of the research conducted by graduate students at Georgia Tech across all disciplines and topics in the form of poster presentations.
- To provide a collegiate environment where undergraduate and graduate students can exchange research ideas and foster opportunities to learn from one another.
- To stimulate innovation at the graduate student level, by providing an opportunity to pitch ideas and obtain sponsorship for a startup company.
