In addition to honoring several prominent Georgia Tech alumni, students, faculty, and staff, the GTBAO also recognized Congressman John Lewis with their Pioneer Award for his historic contributions to not only the African American community, but to the entire country.

One of GTBAO’s primary goals, in support of its overall mission, is to “assist in the preservation of Black history on the Georgia Tech campus, and in the recognition of Black alumni and student successes.” The annual GTBAO Leaders and Legends Black Tie Awards Ceremony exists to ensure that the contributions of Black students and alumni to Georgia Tech, and society as a whole, will never go unrecognized.
