May spoke on "Integrating Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Public Service into the Engineering Curriculum" and led a session on "General Issues in Engineering Education." The meeting was an assemblage of engineering educators from Nigeria, South Africa, other African nations, and other parts of the world. The goal of the regional conference was to provide a forum for engineering educators, professional organizations and industry in the African region to discuss common problems in engineering education. The meeting was a collaboration led by the University of Nigeria with five other Nigerian universities namely; Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, University of Agriculture, Murkurdi, Federal University, Ndufe-Alike Federal University of Technology, Minna, and Obafemi Awolowo University.

The inauguration of the African Engineering Deans’ Council (AEDC) also occured during the conference. “The regional conference was to provide a forum for engineering educators, professional organizations and industry in general and African region in particular to discuss common problems in engineering education," said Chairman, National Organizing Committee, and Vice Chancellor of the host institution, Professor Rahman Bello.
