The engineered drink, which Rhinehart says could potentially aid in the fight against hunger, is now being backed by Andreessen Horowitz, Lerer Ventures, Hydrazine Capital and Initialized Capital.
Soylent will use the money to take manufacturing in-house and improve the drink’s taste and feel, the article stated.
Soylent has also announced a new group of advisers: Xavier Pi-Sunyer, co-director of the New York Obesity Nutrition Research Center; Balaji Srinivasan, co-founder and CTO of Counsyl; and Chris Running, CEO of CytoSport/Muscle Milk.
In announcing the new group on his blog, Rhinehart described the next chapter of his company as “the humble beginnings for something that is going to be very, very big.”
Rhinehart received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from CoE.
