Over half of the students enrolled in this minor are engineering students. Students who were at the retreat built leadership and teamwork skills, took part in a service-learning activity, and networked with faculty, staff, and other students, according to an article.
Camp Twin Lakes provided a ropes course, leadership activities, and the opportunity to help out on a sustainable farm.
“It was an enlightening experience to see the unique skills and traits that each of us have to offer and to think of how they will better the future," said environmental engineering major Mindy Kao.
The Institute for Leadership and Entrepreneurship launched the minor in leadership studies two years ago, and it has appealed to students from various majors. It is designed to provide students with in-depth knowledge of leadership theory, skills, and experience.
Students complete the program by applying their knowledge and skills through a project-based experiential learning course.
This minor lets students choose between a management track or a public policy track. Both require students to take PUBP 4140 - Foundations of Leadership, and then choose three other courses from their chosen track.
To complete the minor, students also participate in an internship for the public policy track or a capstone project for the management track.
