Long known for its rankings of American colleges and universities, U.S. News & World Report has released its first global rankings separated by fields of study. The organization placed Georgia Tech sixth in the world among all engineering schools, and fourth in the United States, keeping in line with the rankings of American schools released in September. The only non-American schools to finish ahead of Georgia Tech in the global rankings were Tsinghua University in Beijing, China, and Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.

From U.S. News & World Report:

"These well-regarded universities from around the world have shown strength in producing research related to a variety of engineering topics. They include aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and civil engineering. All rely on the basic engineering concept of using math and science to solve problems. These are the world's best universities for engineering."

In another recent ranking, this time by Business Insider, Georgia Tech's students were named the smartest among all American public colleges and universities. Business Insider based their list on SAT and ACT scores reported to U.S. News & World Report.
