Mechanical engineering student Grant Veve was named Mr. Georgia Tech at the Homecoming football game Saturday, after a clever campaign video went viral on the Internet.

Every year, a Mr. and Ms. Georgia Tech are elected by the students based on their academics and involvement around Tech’s campus.

In his campaign video, which parodies an ad from Dollar Shave Club, Veve demonstrates how he is a relatable student who doesn’t take life too seriously. As shown in the video, he can often be found either amazingly fixing cars with the bang of a single tool or getting his lift on at the Campus Recreation Center. (Those are just a few of his many talents that can be seen around campus, of course.)

"I talked with one of my fellow Air Force cadets, Addison Fisher (who is also an ME), about helping me with the video," Veve explained. "He's really good at editing and directing, so I knew he was the right man for the job. We brainstormed ways to use the commercial's setup but make it unique to Tech and put my own personal spin to it."

Veve, a fifth-year student, took his victory lap Saturday around Grant Field in the Ramblin’ Wreck. He has held several leadership positions in the ROTC program, including flight commander and recruiting group commander. Because of his success, he was selected as one out of 52 cadets nationwide to attend the Euro-NATO fighter pilot training program in Texas after graduating.

His other leadership positions include president and treasurer of the Cadet Support Association and president of his fraternity, Pi Kappa Alpha, which sponsored him in the Mr. Georgia Tech competition.

"I'm so glad I came to Tech," said Veve. "It's taught me to persevere and keep going."
