College of Engineering salutes distinguished alumni

The professional contributions and life accomplishments of College of Engineering (CoE) grads took center stage this spring when the College honored them at the 2016 Alumni Awards Induction Ceremony. Inductees are alumni who have distinguished themselves through professional practice and/or service to the Institute, the engineering profession, or society at large.

The College of Engineering Alumni Awards were created in 1994. Each year, CoE recognizes, with this induction ceremony, select alumni who have contributed to the profession, advanced in their careers, and enhanced the lives of others both personally and professionally. Hosting the 2016 induction ceremony were CNN news anchor Fredericka Whitfield and Gary S. May, (EE), Southern Company Chair and Dean of the College of Engineering.

Among those being feted were 27 College of Engineering alumni, each singled out for unique contributions to the Institute's legacy. College of Engineering Dean, Gary S. May, lauded the group's impact on career and community. "Those honored tonight are stellar examples of the achievements and leadership inspired by Georgia Tech engineers," he said. "They have contributed in countless ways to the field of engineering, to Georgia Tech, and to their communities."

Council of Outstanding Young Engineering Alumni

The Council of Outstanding Young Engineering Alumni Award recognizes future leaders from the College of Engineering. They are on the “fast track” having advanced rapidly within their organizations through their outstanding professional achievements. Among those being honored were fellow GT grads (left to right) Stan Chia (IE), Ambika Bumb (BME), and Jimmy Mitchell (CE).

Academy of Distinguished Engineering Alumni

Alumni honored are highly placed executives and are actively involved in engineering, management, industry, academia, or government. This year's Academy Induction included (back row, left to right) Tami Mace (Polymer), Sylvia Little (ChE), Nelson McRay (ME), Deb Kilpatrick (ESM, ME), Ray Woody (AE) (front row, left to right) Jocelyn Stargel (IE), Xavier Lefebvre (ChE), Keisha Tanner (ChE), Leslie Sibert (EE), Bill Higginbotham (CE), Behrooz Abdi (EE).

College of Engineering Hall of Fame

Inducted into the College of Engineering Hall of Fame are individuals who have made meritorious engineering and/or managerial contributions over the course of very distinguished professional career. This year's inductees included (back row, left to right) Nils Young (ME), Deborah Nash (IE), Larry Montgomery III (ME), Liz Moore (ChE), Roger Krone (AE), Hal Burnside (Eng. Mechanics) (front row, left to right) James Carreker (EE), Michael Fulbright (Textile Science), Irv Doty (ME), John Corcia (CerE), Howard Tellepsen, Jr. (CE).

Dean's Appreciation Award

The Dean's Appreciation Award is intended to honor those special individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to the advancement of the College of Engineering. The award may go to engineering alumni or to honor non-engineering alumni who have brought distinction to the College of Engineering and Georgia Tech. The 2016 honorees are Alan James Dabbiere (not pictured) and David Kevin Dabbiere. In 1998, the Dabbiere family endowed the Manhattan Associates/Dabbiere Chair in the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial & Systems Engineering.
