The Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) has named Regents’ Professor Dr. Ajit Yoganathan, Biomedical Engineering (BME),  the first editor of its new journal entitled Cardiovascular Engineering and Technology (CVET). The journal, which will debut in early 2010, will publish peer-reviewed articles ranging from basic to translational research in all aspects of cardiovascular physiology and medical treatment.

Dr. Yoganathan is Associate Chair for Research in BME and the Director of the Center for Innovative Cardiovascular Technologies. He was a founding Fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) and has received the H. R. Lissner Award from the American Society of Mechanical Engineering (ASME), the highest award for Bioengineering in ASME. Dr. Yoganathan’s research focuses on cardiovascular fluid dynamics, optimization of cardiovascular surgeries, and tissue engineering of heart valves.

CVET will serve as a forum for academic and industrial investigators to disseminate research that uses engineering principles and methods to advance fundamental knowledge and technological solutions related to the cardiovascular system. The journal will publish papers with topics spanning from subcellular to systems level, including such areas as implantable medical devices, hemodynamics and tissue biomechanics, functional imaging, surgical devices, electrophysiology, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, diagnostic instruments, transport and delivery of biologics, and sensors.
