Melissa L. McCoy, a Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (ChBE) student, has been named a recipient of one of the two Nagel Scholarships from Tau Beta Pi, the national engineering honor society. Tau Beta Pi scholarships are awarded on the competitive criteria of high scholarship, campus leadership and service, and promise of future contributions to the engineering profession.

A National Merit Scholar, McCoy came to Georgia Tech in the fall of 2008.  As a Presidents’ Scholar,

McCoy served on the Freshman Activities Board her first year, was the vice president of Lambda Sigma, an honorary organization for sophomores, and is a member of the President's Council Governing Board. She also serves as the vice president of campus relations for Georgia Techs chapter of AIESEC, the world’s largest student based organization spanning more than 100 countries and more than 1100 universities. McCoy has completed internships at Raytheon Company and Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., and participated in a shadow program at Frito-Lay.

Tau Beta Pi, founded in 1885, has collegiate chapters at 236 engineering colleges and has initiated more than 514,000 members in its history. It is the world’s largest engineering society. The Nagel Scholarships are given in honor of Tau Beta Pi former Secretary-Treasurer Emeritus Robert H. Nagel.
