Dr. Shreyes Melkote, a professor in the George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering, has been appointed to the Morris M. Bryan, Jr. Professorship in Mechanical Engineering.  Melkote is a Woodruff Faculty Fellow and Associate Director of Georgia Tech’s Manufacturing Research Center, where he directs the Graduate Manufacturing Certificate Program. 

Before Georgia Tech

He obtained his B. Tech. degree in Manufacturing Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in 1987, his M.S. from Washington State University in 1989, and his Ph.D. from Michigan Technological University in 1993, both in mechanical engineering.  Prior to joining Georgia Tech in 1995, Melkote did postdoctoral work at the University of Illinois.

Research and Honors

Melkote’s research activities are in hybrid micro-manufacturing processes, photovoltaic manufacturing, fluid jet based surface integrity enhancement, and process monitoring using thin film wireless sensors.  He is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the recipient of several other honors including the Blackall Machine Tool and Gage Award from the ASME and the Dell K. Allen Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME).
