
Wednesday, October 13th marked Georgia Tech's 125th anniversary. The school began in 1885 when the Georgia Legislature set aside $65,000 to open a technical school. Three years later, the Georgia School of Technology opened its doors, offering one major, Mechanical Engineering, to about 80 students and was located on four acres of land off North Avenue. This also marks the 50th anniversary of the matriculation of the first black students to campus along with the Ramlin' Wreck.
Today, Georgia Tech consists of 6 colleges consisting of 20,000 students located on a 450 acre campus. The College of Engineering is the largest engineering school in the country.
