For the sixth year in a row, Tech's Beta Mu Chapter of Eta Kappa Nu (HKN) has been named a recipient of the Outstanding Chapter Award.  A mark of great distinction, this award recognizes a chapter's service to their fellow students, school, university, and the surrounding community during 2009-10. Of critical concern to the committee in judging a chapter are activities to improve professional development, to raise instructional and institutional standards, to encourage scholarship and creativity, to provide a public service, and generally to further the established goals of HKN.The award will be formally presented at the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department Heads Association Annual Meeting in March 2011.

HKN is one of the largest honor societies in the country, with nearly 200 university chapters, a variety of committees, many active member volunteers, and thousands of student members.  The number of chapters receiving the Outstanding Chapter Award six years in a row is seven, including the Beta Mu chapter of Georgia Tech.  Eta Kappa Nu is a unique membership organization dedicated to encouraging and recognizing excellence in the electrical and computer engineering field. Members consist of students, alumni, and other professionals who have demonstrated exceptional academic and professional accomplishments. Eta Kappa Nu was founded on October 28, 1904.

This is a tremendous achievement for Tech's chapter of HKN, led by students Aakash Degwekar and Sean McGee, during this time period and their advisor, ECE professor Tom Gaylord.
