Dr. Avishai Mandelbaum will be hosting a lecture titled "Service Engineering: Data-Based Science in Support of Service Management, or Empirical Adventures in Call Centers and Hospitals."  The lecture will be on February 24th in the ISyE atrium.  The reception will begin at 4:00 PM followed by the lecture at 4:30 PM.

Dr. Mandelbaum will describe examples of complex service operations for which data-based simple models have been found useful, which he refers to as "Simple Models at the Service of Complex Realities." Examples include cover call centers, hospitals, banks, courts and more. He views these service systems through the mathematical lenses of Queueing Science, with a bias towards Statistics.

Dr. Mandelbaum is currently on the William Davidson Faculty of Industrial Engineering and Management, Technion at the Israel Institute of Technology.  For more information, go to http://www.isye.gatech.edu/news-events/dls/
