Tech Tower

Tau Beta Pi will be organzing multiple events on campus in celebration of National Engineers' Week (NEW).  It will be from February 21-25 and marks the 60th anniversary of NEW.  The entire campus is to these events, which may be individual or team based, and all will feature prizes.  The week's schedule is set to be the following:

Monday, February 21

Humpty Dumpty Drop: between 11:00am-12:45pm

Not your traditional egg drop! Design a device to keep your team’s egg safe in a drop from the stairs of Bobby Dodd Stadium to Calloway Plaza below. Teams of up to three will attempt to protect their eggs from cracking or smashing during the fall and the winning team will receive a prize worth $75.

Engineering Movie Night: 7:45-10:00pm

Come out and watch the original Tron movie that inspired today’s popular remake. The film will begin at 8:00pm in the Clary Theater of the Student Success Center. Free popcorn and soft drinks are provided!

Tuesday, February 22

Rubik’s Cube Contest: between 11:00am-4:00pm

This is an individual event in which participants will be given three attempts to solve a Rubik’s Cube in a record amount of time. Participants should report to Student Center Organization Table #2, near the post office in the Student Center. Each attempt to solve the cube will be timed and the lowest time will be recorded for competition. The winner will not only receive a $30 prize, but will enjoy knowing that he or she can solve a Rubik’s Cube faster than anyone at Tech!

Build-A-Thon: 1:00-4:30pm

Each team of up to four members will bring at least 15 cans of food to build a unique structure entirely out of cans! The creative possibilities are endless, and all cans will be donated to the Atlanta Community Food Bank after competition. Construction will take place on the Student Instructional Center Lawn Sidewalk and the winning team will receive a $75 prize!

Wednesday, February 23

Engineering Exposition: 10:30am-1:00pm

We are inviting honor societies, professional societies, research groups, and more to come out and participate in this expo. This event will give organizations a chance to show off their demonstrations and give campus a look at what these groups are all about, Groups will set up their creative demonstrations on the Student Instructional Center Lawn Sidewalk and will be judged based on creativity, originality, and positive view feedback.

Skyscraper Contest: 12:00-3:30pm

Can you build a marshmallow tower taller than anyone else? Then come on out to the Student Success Center to show off your talents! Teams will construct skyscrapers out of marshmallows, skewers, and toothpicks. All supplies are provided and the tallest, strongest tower wins a prize valued at $80!

Thursday, February 24

Dodgeball Tournament: 10:00am

Teams of 7-12 members are welcome to compete in this year’s E-Week Dodgeball Tournament. Sixteen teams will be notified of their game times in this single-elimination tournament which will take place in the North Avenue Gymnasium. A $100 prize will be awarded to the winning team! Comedy Night: 8:00-9:30pm

A comedian from the Punchline will come out to perform in this E-Week finale event! Admission is free, and the show will take place in Midtown Theater, the small circular stage outside Burdell’s in the Student Center. All are welcome to come out for this night of laughs to wrap up E-Week 2011.
