The Georgia Tech student chapter of the American Nuclear Society (ANS) will be hosting the 2011 ANS Student Conference on April 14-17. The American Nuclear Society is a not-for-profit, international, scientific and educational organization. It was established by a group of individuals who recognized the need to unify the professional activities within the diverse fields of nuclear science and technology. ANS has since developed a multifarious membership composed of approximately 11,000 engineers, scientists, administrators, and educators representing over 1,600 corporations, educational institutions, and government agencies. The core purpose of ANS is to promote the awareness and understanding of the application of nuclear science and technology. GT ANS has taken part in many activities in this vein, including visiting high school classes, taking group trips to nuclear facilities, having guest speakers on campus, and facilitating interaction within the chapter.
This year's events will take place in the Hyatt Regency Downtown with some activities occurring on Tech's campus. Over 700 people are expected to attend this year's conference and ANS anticipates $300k to be pledged.
