
To celebrate the creation of the largest Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) School in the nation, Georgia Tech held a symposium titled "The Future of MSE in the 21st Century" and invited MSE leaders from around the world to give their views. The speakers looked far ahead and projected the discipline into the future.
Among the speakers attending were Georgia Tech's Dr. Bud Peterson (President), Dr. Don Giddens (Dean, CoE), Dr. Barbara Boyan (Associate Dean, CoE), and Dr. David McDowell (Regents' Professor). Others included professionals and scholars from Sandia National Laboratories (NL), Argonne NL, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Savannah River NL, Cambridge University, Tsinghua University, Max Planck Stuttgart, the National Science Foundation Division of Materials Research, Boeing, Northwestern University, University of Pennsylvania, University of Michigan, and the US Naval Research Laboratory.
