Dr. Mickey Wade (MSNE 1987, Ph.D. NE 1991) has been appointed Director of the DIII-D National Fusion Program, the largest tokamak research program in the USA and one of the world's leading such programs and Vice President of the General Atomics Company.

Dr. Wade has more than 20 years of experience with DIII-D, the last seven with General Atomics as the program’s Director of Experimental Science Division.  He assumed his new position on March 12, 2012.

Dr. Wade’s experience includes award-winning research collaboration with Oak Ridge National Laboratory. While acting as the Senior Research Scientist at Oak Ridge, he provided the Woodruff School with a testimonial, in which he recalled how a book on fusion energy written by Dr. Weston Stacey inspired him to come to Georgia Tech in pursuit of his graduate degree.

Dr. Wade is a Fellow of the American Physical Society, and is well respected in the international fusion community.
