In the latest Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings, Georgia Tech climbed to 38th, three spots ahead of 2012's 41st place evaluation. The reputation rankings are formulated based on responses to an invitation-only survey sent out to some of the world's leading academic experts. According to Times Higher Education:

"The questionnaire, administered by polling company Ipsos MediaCT for THE's rankings data supplier Thomson Reuters, targets only experienced, published scholars, who offer their views on excellence in research and teaching within their disciplines and at institutions with which they are familiar.

The 2013 rankings are based on a survey carried out in March and April 2012, which received 16,639 responses from 144 countries. When polled, the respondents on average had been working in the academy for 17 years."

Georgia Tech fared even better in the organization's World University Rankings released in October which were based on 13 performance indicators grouped into the areas of teaching (30 percent), research (30 percent), citations (30 percent), industry (2.5%) and international outlook (7.5 percent). Those criteria placed Georgia Tech ninth among engineering and technology schools and 25th overall in the world. The same ranking had Tech ranked 11th among engineering schools in 2011-12.
