Valerie Montgomery Rice, MD, a Harvard-educated obstetrician and gynecologist, who was named executive vice president and dean of Morehouse School of Medicine in 2011, is now the nation's first African-American woman to lead a freestanding medical school as chief executive officer. Montgomery Rice will retain the position of dean during her presidency, which was effective July 1, 2014.

Montgomery Rice is a member of the College of Engineering (CoE) External Advisory Board and a graduate of Georgia Tech with a bachelor's degree in chemistry. She obtained her medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completed her training at Emory University in obstetrics and gynecology. She completed her fellowship at Hutzel Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. She is a renowned infertility specialist and reproductive endocrinologist

The CoE Advisory Board provides “external” advice to the dean regarding priorities and directions for engineering education and research. Board members are from the private sector and academia, and include both alumni and other individuals who are interested in the success of Georgia Tech.
