The 2015 Academic Ranking of Worldwide Universities (ARWU) was released on August 15 and ranked Georgia Tech sixth in the United States and seventh in the world among schools specializing in engineering, technology, and computer science.

Developed in 2003, the rankings are compiled by the Center for World-Class Universities at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The four key measures used to determine the engineering rankings are the number of highly cited researchers from the schools, the total number of papers indexed in the Science-Citation Index in engineering fields, the percentage of papers published in the top engineering journals, and total engineering-related research expenditures. The College of Engineering finished first in the United States when it came to the number of papers indexed and fared well in the area of research expenditures.
