
Georgia Tech track & field athletes and engineering majors Bria Matthews and Andreas Ward have been named to the All-ACC Academic Outdoor Track & Field Team, the conference announced on Wednesday, June 23. Matthews also earned the honor during the indoor season. Both athletes are in-state students. Matthews graduated from Forest Park High School while Ward attended Statesboro High School.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
The honor caps a year of tremendous accomplishments for Matthews, who set three school records and won three ACC gold medals combined during the indoor and outdoor seasons. She was also named ACC Freshman of the Year for the indoor season and earned first-team All-America honors in the long jump and triple jump at the NCAA IndoorTrack & Field Championships. She ended her freshman year with cumulative GPA of 3.89 while majoring in computer engineering.
Ward had a solid sophomore season, which included a seventh-place finish in the 110m hurdles at the ACC Outdoor Championships with a personal-best time of 14.42. He carries a cumulative 3.24 GPA in mechanical engineering.
