“Applications to Engineering Mechanics” was ranked highest in the engineering category by users

The popularity of Massive Online Open Courses (MOOCs) is rising as a method for people around the world to learn from professors at the world’s best universities without the traditional classroom setting. Georgia Tech offers a variety of these courses, some of which are ranked as most popular in the engineering field by the students that take them.
On Class-Central, the most common website for browsing MOOCs, “Applications to Engineering Mechanics” was recently ranked the most popular course in the engineering category based on user reviews. The five-week class applies basic principles of engineering mechanics to real-world problems.
In fact, Georgia Tech’s classes currently occupy the top four spots within the engineering category, as well as spots six, nine, and ten. Courses are also ranked highly in the science and social science categories. Overall, Georgia Tech has more top-ranked classes on Class-Central than any other university or institution.
“Applications to Engineering Mechanics” is taught by Professor Wayne Whiteman of the Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering. Users can take a series of eight courses on mechanical engineering taught by Professor Whiteman. All MOOCs are free, although Georgia Tech offers a paid version of many courses that allows students to obtain an official certificate when they complete it.
Georgia Tech professors currently offer 28 courses, on topics ranging from developing English business writing skills to materials data science and informatics. MOOCs from Georgia Tech are offered on coursera.org/gatech.
