The Georgia Tech College of Engineering reclaimed the No. 3 position among the nation’s undergraduate engineering programs in the latest rankings from U.S. News & World Report.
The College moved up one spot on the 2026 Best Colleges list released Sept. 23. The ranking puts the program at No. 1 among public universities (tied with the University of California, Berkeley).
The new list marks the second time in three years the College’s overall programs have ranked third, its best-ever position on the annual list.
It’s also the first time three specific engineering disciplines ranked first in a single year:
- Biomedical engineering returned to No. 1.
- Environmental engineering moved to No. 1 for the first time.
- The H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering extended a run as the nation’s No. 1 undergraduate program for the 25th straight year.
1st among public universities
Meanwhile, every discipline ranked sixth or better, with most in the top three.
Aerospace engineering remained No. 2, along with chemical engineering and civil engineering. Electrical engineering and materials science and engineering both ranked third in the nation.
U.S. News uses surveys of deans and senior faculty members at other universities to rank engineering programs and individual disciplines. The publication’s rankings are just one indicator of the quality of an institution, though they can influence undergraduates, professors, prospective students, peer institutions, and the media.
Overall, Georgia Tech is tied at No. 32 nationally, one spot higher than last year. Tech also is tied for ninth among public universities.
