Georgia Tech’s engineering program ranks higher than ever before in the newest assessment from U.S. News & World Report.
Released Sept. 22, the 2027 Best Colleges rankings put the engineering undergraduate program at No. 2 in the nation. It’s the second year the College has climbed a spot in the annual list, which has Tech tied with Stanford University and the University of California, Berkeley.
The updated rankings also mean Tech and Berkeley share the distinction of having the top public engineering program in the nation.
Each of the College’s individual disciplines ranked in the top 5 among their peers. That includes a 26th straight year at No. 1 for the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering.
1st among public universities
Also in the top spot this year is the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering — the first time both the civil and environmental engineering bachelor’s programs have reached No. 1 in the same year.
Five other programs ranked second among their peers: aerospace, biomedical, chemical, materials, and mechanical engineering. All are the top public engineering program among their peers.
U.S. News uses surveys of deans and senior faculty members at other universities to rank engineering programs and individual disciplines. The publication’s rankings are just one indicator of the quality of an institution, though they can influence undergraduates, professors, prospective students, peer institutions, and the media.
Overall, Georgia Tech rose three places to No. 29 nationally and is sixth among public universities.
