Seven programs ranked in nation’s top two for the first time, as College ranks No. 4 overall

For the first time, seven of the College of Engineering’s undergraduate programs are ranked second or better in the nation, according to the 2023 U.S. News and World Report Best Colleges rankings. That includes the Daniel Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering, which is No. 1 for the first time, and the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering, which is first for the 28th consecutive year.

All 10 of the College’s undergraduate programs remain ranked in the top five for the fifth year in a row.

Overall, the College is ranked No. 4 in the country — continuing a seven-year streak in that spot — and again tied with the California Institute of Technology. Among public universities, the College is No. 2 in the country.

Four programs improved their rankings from last year. That includes electrical engineering at No. 2 (up two spots). It’s the highest ranking in the program’s history.

Individual engineering discipline rankings are based solely on surveys of deans and faculty members at other universities. The U.S. News rankings are one indicator of the quality of an institution and can influence undergraduates, professors, prospective students, peer institutions, and the media.
