Tech Tower

The Exploring Engineering Academy was a week-long residential camp for rising 9th-12th graders designed to provide hands-on engineering activities. The camp provided engineers to serve as mentors for those attending and provided a variety of learning experiences via interviews with engineers and exploration of specific fields in the technology world. Campers visited local companies and met with current Georgia Tech engineering students in order to gain a better understanding of engineering as a profession.

Along with Benton-Johnson closing speakers included Georgia State Senator Bruce Thompson, who serves as the vice chairman of the Science and Technology Committee. As the director of CEED, Benton-Johnson collaborates with constituencies across campus (student organizations, academic departments, research centers, undergraduate/graduate admissions, and financial aid) on initiatives that focus on under-represented populations (ethnic minorities, women, first generation students, etc.).
